FAQ
Print & marketing collateral FAQs
How much does print design cost?
$100 to $800 USD per item, or A$150 to A$1,100. A business card or a single flyer sits at the bottom. A multi-page brochure, packaging dieline or a full stationery set sits at the top. Buying items as a bundle costs less than commissioning them one at a time, mostly because the brand setup and typography work is shared across everything.
Do you handle printing as well?
No. We design and prepare the artwork, and you place the print order yourself. That keeps you in control of paper, quantity and price, and lets you compare quotes locally. We will give you a specification sheet to hand to any printer and we will answer their technical questions. Sending us the printer's email is usually faster than relaying messages between us.
Why does print design cost more than a social media graphic?
Because the file has to survive a press. Screens are forgiving: a slightly wrong colour just looks slightly wrong. Print is not. Colours shift between RGB and CMYK, thin lines disappear, images that looked sharp at screen size fail at 300 dots per inch, and anything within three millimetres of the edge can be trimmed off. The extra work is in preparing a file that cannot go wrong on a five-thousand-unit run.
Can you work from our existing logo and brand guidelines?
Yes, and that is the usual case. Send the logo in vector format, ideally AI, EPS or SVG. If all you have is a JPEG pulled from a website, we will need to redraw it, which is a separate small job. Guidelines help but are not required. If they do not exist, we can establish a basic specification covering colour values, fonts and spacing that everything else follows.
How long does it take?
Three to five working days for a simple item such as a business card or flyer, one to two weeks for a brochure or a packaging design. Allow extra time for physical proofs if the item is expensive to print, because a physical proof on the actual paper is the only way to see how a colour truly behaves. That proof costs money and is worth it on large runs.
What happens if the printer says the file is wrong?
Send it back to us and we will correct it at no charge, provided the printer is working to the specification we supplied. If the printer has changed the specification, such as a different paper size or a different finishing method, that is a change of scope and we will quote it. This is why we ask for the printer's details before starting rather than after.
Who owns the artwork and the source files?
You own both, including the editable source files on final payment. We supply them in Illustrator, InDesign or Affinity format depending on what we built them in. Fonts are licensed separately by the foundry, so we will tell you which ones you need and where they can be purchased if you want to edit the files yourself.
