FAQ
Mobile app development FAQs
How much does mobile app development cost?
Between roughly $8,000 and $40,000 USD, or A$12,000 to A$55,000. The deciding factor is rarely the number of screens. It is whether the app needs user accounts, real-time data, offline support, payments or integrations with systems that were not designed to talk to a phone. Each of those adds architecture, not just interface work.
Should I build native or cross-platform?
Cross-platform with React Native or Flutter is the right choice for most business apps, because one codebase means one build to maintain and a materially lower cost. Native development is worth the expense when you need heavy graphics performance, deep hardware access, or platform-specific features that cross-platform frameworks handle poorly. We will recommend cross-platform unless there is a specific reason not to.
How long does it take to build an app?
A focused app with accounts and a handful of core screens typically takes three to five months including store review. Something with real-time features, offline mode or complex integrations runs six months or longer. App store review itself adds one to two weeks and can add more if a submission is rejected, which is common on first attempt for any developer.
Will you publish the app under my developer account?
Yes, and we recommend it. The app should live under your Apple and Google developer accounts so you retain control of the listing, the reviews and the release schedule. We handle the submission process and the technical configuration, including signing certificates and store listings.
Do I need a backend as well as the app?
Usually. An app with no server can only store data on the device, which means it is lost when the phone is replaced and cannot be shared between users. If you already have a system that holds the data, we integrate with it. If not, we build the API alongside the app, and it is worth budgeting for that from the start rather than treating it as a surprise.
Who owns the app and the source code?
You do, fully. You receive the source code, the build configuration and documentation, and the app remains under your developer accounts. There is no ongoing licence required to keep your own app running.
What happens after the app is live?
Mobile apps need more ongoing maintenance than websites, because Apple and Google release operating system updates that can break things, and both stores change their requirements regularly. Every project includes a defined post-launch support window, and we recommend a maintenance arrangement for anything in active use.
